Asia Society is delighted to host His Excellency Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister of Thailand, for an address and discussion with Tom Nagorski, Executive Vice President of Asia Society. The discussion will be on Thailand's perspective on the evolving international landscape -- with special attention to Asia -- and Thailand's role as Chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations this year.
H.E. General Prayut Chan-o-cha (Ret.) is the Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of Thailand. He was previously the head of the National Council for Peace and Order (assuming the position in May 2014), and Commander in Chief of the Royal Thai Army (2010-2014). A career military officer, he served in the prestigious Queen’s Guard regiment (1990). He then became the commanding general of the King’s Guard Division (2003), before moving on to more senior positions in the Royal Thai Army including as Chief of Staff and Deputy Commander in Chief. Among other special duties in service to Their Majesties the King and Queen of Thailand, he served as Royal Aide-de-Camp to His Majesty the King of Thailand.
Tom Nagorski is Executive Vice President of Asia Society. He joined the Asia Society following a three-decade career in journalism — having served most recently as Managing Editor for International Coverage at ABC News. He serves on Princeton University’s Advisory Council for the Department of East Asian Studies, and the Advisory Board of the Committee to Protect Journalists.
