Biodiversity Conservation and Management through the Bohol Islands Marine Triangle Project (BMTP), Philippines

As an innovative initiative with funding from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) under the Global Environment Facility (GEF), the 'Biodiversity Conservation and Management of the Bohol Marine Triangle (BMT) Project' is executed by the Foundation for the Philippine Environment. It was designed to set-up a system of governance for biodiversity conservation of species rich but threatened marine areas covering the islands of Balicasag, Panglao and Pamilacan, all situated in Bohol Province in central Philippines. Its intended system of governance was a management body consisting of local communities, non-government organizations (NGOs) and local government representatives, rather than being a part of the National Integrated Protected Areas System (NIPAS). The Project Document was signed on March 2001, its mid-term evaluation was carried out in May 2004, and was due for completion by 30 June 2007.
