SEASSI is an intensive eight-week (June 15 - August 7, 2020) summer language program for academic credit hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and supported by a network of Southeast Asian Studies programs at North American universities. Financial aid is available.
Courses are taught in first, second and third-year levels by experienced instructors. Instructions tailored for heritage students are available for Indonesian, Filipino, Hmong, Khmer, Lao and Vietnamese.
Each language course is equivalent to two semesters of study, with full academic year credit. Instruction is given in small individualized groups taught by a team consisting of a coordinator (usually a linguist specializing in Southeast Asian language pedagogy) and teachers who are native speakers of that language. Instruction is intensive. Classes are held from 8:00 am to 12:30 pm, Mondays through Fridays. Most students find that they spend an additional three to four hours per day on homework.
SEASSI also offers a limited number of spots for students to participate in SEASSI classes via distance.
WISLI tuition scholarship applications are due March 29, 2020.
Partial tuition scholarship & general applications are due April 6, 2020.
