[Recording] Getting There: Navigating Visas, Logistics, and Ethics of Research in and on Southeast Asia

This panel discussion delved into the complex logistics of conducting field research in, and online research on, Southeast Asia. Panelists addressed challenges that scholars from across disciplines face:

  • Determining what approvals one needs for field research in a given country or on a particular topic

  • Tips for securing research visas and other permissions (with a focus especially on Indonesia, Vietnam, Myanmar, and Thailand)

  • Suggestions for finding and working with local partners and affiliations

  • How to adapt to logistical roadblocks or mishaps

  • Best practices for ethical, safe field and online research
