Malaysia held its fifteenth general election on November 19th, 2022 after it was called at short notice before the end of the last government’s term. What was this election all about? How to understand its results? Can we consider Malaysia to be experiencing a democratic transition? And what comparative lessons does this election offer for political competitions elsewhere in Southeast Asia?
