UMNO's influence in the country remained strong for decades until its recent losses to the opposition Perikatan Nasional (PN).

Mohd Azizuddin Mohd Sani is Professor of Politics and International Relations from School of International Studies, Universiti Utara Malaysia. He is also a Visiting Adjunct Professor at the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Taylor’s University Malaysia
