In this paper published by NYSEAN Partner ISEAS-Yusof Ishak InstituteNajwa Abdullah discusses the rise of a contemporary religious movement known as “Hijrah” shaping the trajectory of Islam and urban Muslim identities in Indonesia.

Najwa Abdullah is Visiting Fellow with the Regional Social & Cultural Studies Programme at ISEAS – Yusof Ishak Institute. Her research interests include media and communications, popular culture, cultural policy, postcolonial thought, and contemporary Islam.
