[Video] What's Wrong With Philippine Studies? Reflections from the Margins of the Nation-State

Patricio N. Abinales, a Professor of Asian Studies at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, discusses the shift by senior "nationalist" Philippine historians such as Reynaldo Ileto towards right-wing politics. This lecture explores several explanations behind this "reactionary turn" and its consequences on Philippine scholarship, especially as it pertains to the stories of the economically, politically, and culturally marginalized.

This event was hosted by the UH-Manoa Center for Southeast Asian Studies.
