Back by popular demand! Gamelan Kusuma Laras and the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia present "Klenengan: a singular experience of Javanese music," on June 29 from 5PM to 11PM. We invite you to join us for our second ever Klenengan, building on last year's tremendously successful inaugural event.

Klenengan are musical events featuring musicians who gather for a kind of Javanese jam session, often arranged by a family for a special event, and which typically go until late at night. These events are informal and relaxed; audience members are free to chat quietly, come and go, bring children, and enjoy an evening of music, snacks, community, and conviviality. This format is typical for gamelan performances in Java, where concerts on a stage are rare.

There will be a break from 7:30 pm to 8:15 pm, during which the audience will have a chance to learn how to play a simple phrase on the instruments.
