Description:

The ASEAN Studies Centre at the ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute is pleased to invite you to the 24th ASEAN Lecture on the Lao People’s Democratic Republic’s ASEAN Chairmanship in 2024. Lao PDR takes over the ASEAN Chairmanship under unprecedented challenging times as the region continues to face geopolitical and geo-economic challenges as it creates an inclusive ASEAN Community. Public interest and international media attention on the Chair country’s plans and priorities for its Chairmanship year is high.

ASEAN is a fast-growing, diverse but inclusive region. To maintain its trajectory of growth, ASEAN must continue to maintain stability and peace in the region. Lao PDR’s ASEAN Chairmanship theme “ASEAN: Enhancing Connectivity and Resilience” promises to build a more connected and resilient ASEAN, strengthen ASEAN centrality and unity, and develop a regional architecture for stability, peace, and development. Against this backdrop, the Lecture will discuss the priorities of Lao PDR during its Chairmanship in 2024.
