Description:
Join the Center for Philippine Studies at the University of Hawaii at Manoa for a talk by Patricio N. Abinales, Professor of Asian Studies at UH Manoa. This webinar on Ferdinand Marcos and oligarchic politics will discuss possible explanations behind the return of the Marcoses to power in the Philippines.
Abstract:
How do we understand the return of the Marcoses to power? Were we all just too naive or were we hoodwinked by the ruling elite? What happened to the so-called “Spirit of EDSA” that was supposed to prevent such a restoration? This talk suggests several possible explanations behind these dramatic changes in Philippine politics. By Patricio N. Abinales, PhD Professor of Asian Studies, University of Hawaii at Manoa.
