Organizer: Stimson Center
Type/Location: Virtual
Description:
Join the Stimson Center for a discussion on how Myanmar’s military government is handling rising sanctions with few friends. Since the February 2021, the junta has relied on political, military, and diplomatic support of Beijing and Moscow, despite ongoing international outcry and the recent gain of Myanmar’s resistance. Hunter Marston, an expert on great power competition in Southeast Asia and a PhD candidate at Australian National University, joins East Asia Program Research Analyst Pam Kennedy to discuss whether the junta’s support is sufficient to maintain its grip on power.
