James Llewellyn is Associate Manager, Southeast Asia at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington, D.C., where he provides research and programmatic support for the Chamber’s operations in Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand. James is a former Program Associate at the National Democratic Institute’s (NDI) Asia-Pacific team, Program Associate of the United States-Indonesia Society (USINDO) and Political Affairs Program Assistant at the US-Asia Institute (USAI). He holds a Master’s in Southeast Asian Studies from the University of Wisconsin - Madison and a Bachelor’s in Politics and International Affairs with specializations in Middle East and South Asia Studies, and Arabic from Wake Forest University. He developed an academic interest in Southeast Asia while living as a high school exchange student in Malaysia for one year through the Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES-Abroad) Program in 2012, serving as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant to Malaysia in 2020, and completing the U.S.-portion of a Boren Fellowship under the Indonesian Flagship Language Initiative (IFLI) studying Bahasa Indonesia in 2021.
