Lestary Jakara Barany is pursuing an MA in Quantitative Methods in Social Science at Columbia University with a scholarship from the Government of Indonesia. Previously, she was a research assistant in the Department of Economics, Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) Indonesia, for over three years. She is actively involved in numerous studies on gender and technology, competition policy and law, international trade, economic partnerships, and the digital economy. Besides, she is the founder and Executive Director of Idekonomi, a podcast aiming to increase public literacy on economic issues. This podcast has interviewed more than 40 prominent Indonesian economists and young researchers. It has reached over 6000 listeners and collaborated with top-notch research institutes in Indonesia. She holds a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Indonesia, and her thesis examined the gender-specific impact of globalization in Indonesian manufacturing. During college, she experienced internships at Bank Indonesia and J-PAL Southeast Asia. Also, she was a Bank Indonesia scholarship awardee. She was granted leadership training from Young Leaders for Indonesia by McKinsey & Company.
