Maui Galang (she/her) is a Radboud Encouragement Scholar at Radboud University in Nijmegen, the Netherlands. As a human rights defender and LGBTIQ rights advocate, she is actively involved in the transformative activities of the Society of Trans Women of the Philippines (STRAP), Filipino LGBT Europe, and TGEU. As a researcher, her work is situated at the intersection of gender, sexuality, and migration, exploring how a critical understanding of sexuality can lead to a more inclusive and accurate portrayal of gendered migration. Using an intersectional lens and guided by the principles of community engagement and participatory research methods, her current research project examines the lived experiences of migrant transpinays (transgender women in the Philippines and its diasporic communities) in Europe, focusing on their sexual identity formation and their belonging.
