Call for Submissions: The Stilt House Zine, Genealogy Stories

Email submissions to calaa.lowell@gmail.com

Email subject line: "TSH Zine Submission - Genealogy Storie" and your name.

Why submit?

For some, it comes in the form of a carefully demarcated family tree. For others, a decades-old catalogue of photo albums serves as an archive. For others still, a simple record book may suit the purpose. No matter how one documents their lineage, the goal seems clear: to know and remember those who came before us. Genealogy stories can allow us to examine our past, to learn about our ancestral family members, to define for ourselves what kinship means, to anchor ourselves within a larger historical context, and perhaps, to carve out a place for our own individual presence. They may be straightforward and circumscribed, or may be divergent and anomalous. No two genealogy stories are the same, and the Stilt-house Zine, the literary magazine of the Cambodian American Literary Arts Association, wants to hear about what genealogy means to you.

We will accept submissions (up to a maximum of three submissions per person) in any medium, such as poems, short stories, photos, recipes, visual art, audio tracks, etc. Submissions should relate to the theme of Genealogy Stories: Krous’saa Ka’nyoum. Text submissions should be in ENGLISH ONLY.

This program is supported in part by a grant from the Lowell Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency. This program is also sponsored by the Cambodian Mutual Assistance Association and the Lowell Community Health Center/Teen BLOCK.
