Postdoctoral Fellowship in Asian or Asian Diaspora Studies - York University
The York Centre for Asian Research (YCAR) invites applications for a one-year Postdoctoral Fellowship in Asian or Asian Diaspora Studies beginning 01 September 2025. We seek a scholar whose research aligns with YCAR’s mandate and focuses on historical, modern, or contemporary Asia or Asian diasporas. Fellows will pursue a self-designed research project under the mentorship of a designated YCAR faculty supervisor. The fellowship will run from 01 September 2025 to 31 August 2026, with a possibility of renewal for second year.
By the start date, applicants should have a doctorate in any social science or humanities discipline, including but not limited to anthropology, environmental, studies, geography, history, political science, public health, sociology, art history, performative arts, media studies, urban studies, agrarian studies, and development studies. Preference will be given to candidates who are no more than five years out of their doctorate.
The fellow is expected to contribute to the intellectual life of the institution by participating in seminars, organizing one workshop in consultation with YCAR director, and delivering a public lecture. Applicants should identify a full-time faculty member who is a YCAR associate they wish to work with during the fellowship and submit a letter of support from them. Information on possible supervisors can be found by accessing the YCAR Associates list in our website.
We welcome applications from all qualified individuals, including those within the University's employment equity categories: women, persons with disabilities, members of visible minorities and Indigenous persons, individuals of diverse gender and sexual orientation, and all groups protected by the Human Rights Code. York University is committed to employment equity, diversity, and a positive and supportive environment.
The salary for the position is $60,000 per annum. The position is open to both Canadian and non-Canadian applicants, but the appointment will depend upon the applicant securing the right to work in Canada.
