The Southeast Asia and Southeast Asia Diasporic Forum of the Modern Language Association (MLA) invites you to join a roundtable discussion with presenters who have chosen a selection of Southeast Asian novels, short stories, memoirs, and graphic novels which they have taught in various contexts. These include: Lydia Kwa’s This Place Called Absence (2000), Tan Twan Eng’s The Garden of Evening Mists (2012), Honorio Bartolome de Dios’ “Geyluv” (1991), Sonny Liew’s The Art of Charlie Chan Hock Chye (2015), Jose Dalisay’s Killing Time in a Warm Place (1992), and Tash Aw’s The Face: Strangers on a Pier (2016). Panelists will share their pedagogical experiences as well as resources others may find useful in the teaching of Southeast Asian literature. After the presentations there will be time for questions and a conversation with the audience.
