Organizer: The CSIS Southeast Asia Program
Ted Osius, former U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam from 2014 to 2017, will be speaking at the launch of his new book, Nothing is Impossible: America's Reconciliation with Vietnam. Ambassador Osius was at the forefront of U.S. policy at a time when relations with Vietnam were strengthening amid deepening economic and security ties. His book recounts the diplomatic history of the U.S.-Vietnam relationship and progress toward reconciliation in the wake of a lengthy war that cost nearly 60,000 American and more than 3 million Vietnamese lives. Serving as a diplomat for over 30 years, Ambassador Osius was one of the first U.S. diplomats to work at the U.S. Embassy in Hanoi following the normalization of relations in the 1990s. Join CSIS as he provides a personal account of the role of international diplomacy in advancing the United States' relationship with one of its most important partners in the Indo-Pacific.
