Business and Economic Priorities under Indonesia's ASEAN Chairmanship 2023

Organizer: ISEAS - Yusof Ishak Institute

Description:

The ASEAN region was among the fastest-growing regions in 2022 and is expected to remain so in 2023. Yet, economic growth will be slightly dampened this year due to worsening global economic conditions and the risk of recession in major developed economies. As we enter 2023 with a host of evolving economic pressures, ASEAN needs to find a way to retain its attractiveness as an international investment destination.

This year, under Indonesia’s Chairmanship of ASEAN and the theme of “ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth”, Indonesia will direct its efforts to strengthening ASEAN cooperation and capacity to respond to regional and global challenges. Indonesia will also seek to support ASEAN’s position as the epicentre of regional economic growth for the prosperity of the people in the region. In supporting the chairmanship, ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC) will work extensively on policy advocacy for regional policy reforms with a focus on digital transformation, sustainable development, health resilience, trade facilitation and food security. In this talk, Mr Arsjad Rasjid, Chair of ASEAN-BAC will share Indonesia’s ASEAN-BAC Chairmanship priorities, agenda and legacy projects. The talk is an opportunity for relevant stakeholders to express their aspirations and views on key interests for future regional economic integration.
