Nanyang Technological University
Duncan McCargo is best known for his agenda-setting writings on the politics of Thailand: his book Tearing Apart the Land: Islam and Legitimacy in Southern Thailand (Cornell 2008) won the inaugural Bernard Schwartz book prize from the Asia Society, and his arguments about the country’s network monarchy have been widely used. A co-founder of the New York Southeast Asia Network, Duncan taught in the Columbia political science department from 2015 to 2019, before becoming Director of the Nordic Institute of Asian Studies at the University of Copenhagen.
He is currently President’s Chair in Global Affairs at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.
