My research has concerned the relevance of law at moments of important political and economic change in the United States and elsewhere. My current interest is in Southeast Asia and especially Thailand's struggle to accommodate growing demands for political participation while traditional holders of power struggle to maintain their hold on society. For the past decade I have been interviewing leaders of popular movements and legal advocates for social causes about their work and careers to determine how concepts such as "rights" or "rule of law" might be playing a part in political and social change.
