Giovanni Porta was born in 1961 in Rome, Italy. He graduated cum laude in Political Sciences from Milan’s State University, majoring in International Relations. After his studies in the USA, he started working as a Foreign Affairs correspondent for the leading Italian news magazine “Panorama”, covering wars and social issues all over the world. After 11 years in journalism, he decided to switch careers and started collaborating with International Organizations (5 years with the OSCE as Spokesperson and Media Development officer in Albania and Serbia) and NGOs, as a manager of development and emergency projects, in Africa and Asia. Giovanni has been living in Indonesia since 2009, is married to a lady from Yogyakarta. In 2019 he was seconded by the German INGO Brot für die Welt to support the Indonesian foundation Borneo Institute, attached to its Research and Communication Department. Giovanni speaks Italian, English, French, Spanish and Bahasa Indonesia. He is a keen reader of news, reports and essays about SouthEast Asia.
