Renowned Indonesian dhalang (shadow puppet master) Dr. Sumarsam — master musician, scholar of Indonesian performing arts, and Professor of Music at Wesleyan University — will perform Javanese wayang kulit (shadow-play with flat leather puppets), one of the great dramatic forms of the East. Accompanied by a 12-piece gamelan orchestra, Sumarsam manipulates the puppets, delivers the dialogue, describes the scene and signals the orchestra to play. A lecture/demo/Q&A will take place at 6:30, followed by a performance at 7:30.
Regular admission is $10, $5 for seniors/students. Children are invited free of charge
