Climate Change and COVID-19: At the Everyday Scale in Southeast Asia

The LSESU ASEAN Society will be hosting a joint event in collaboration with the Yale Council on Southeast Asian Studies regarding the effects of COVID-19 and climate change in Southeast Asia, with an emphasis on Thailand and Indonesia. During this hour-long session, a cross-national panel of speakers will be joining us to discuss topics ranging from the changing relationship between the pandemic and climate change, with a focus on aspects such as sustainable agriculture and the distribution of resources, and the challenges faced on a national and local scale when approaching “a new normal.”

Speakers:

  • Erik Harms, Chair of the Council on Southeast Asian Studies and Associate Professor of Anthropology at Yale University

  • Brian G. McAdoo, Professor of Environmental Studies and Geophysics at Yale-NUS College in Singapore

  • Chef Suwitra Wongwaree, Lecturer at Mae Hong Son Community College where she teaches courses on Community Based Culinary Training and Ethno-Gastronomic Tourism

  • Chaya Vaddhanaphuti, Lecturer at the Department of Geography, Faculty of Social Sciences, Chiang Mai University, Thailand
