WEBINAR: Youth in Myanmar’s 2020 Elections

Note: This event will take place on 10/1 at 10:00 AM UTC+8.

On November 8, over 37 million eligible voters of Myanmar’s 55 million-person population will head to the polls in the country’s third general election since its 2008 Constitution and transition to an elected government. This time around, over 5 million first-time voters – equivalent to 10% of the entire country – aged 18 to 22 are estimated to be included, highlighting Myanmar’s youth. Moreover, with a recent spike in COVID-19 cases and strict social-distancing measures in places, candidates are now leaning towards virtual campaigns on social media, and around 80% of all social media users in Myanmar are between the ages of 18 and 35.

This webinar by Alex Aung Khant, Executive Director of Urbanize, a local policy institute on urban and regional planning, and former independent candidate for the 2019 Yangon municipal elections, will focus on the topic on youth and elections in Myanmar.
