CPJ to Release Report and Host Media Briefing on Press Freedom in Myanmar

Since the February military coup in Myanmar, the junta has cracked down harshly on the press, attacking reporters and photographers and jailing dozens of journalists. Shawn Crispin, Committee to Protect Journalists’ (CPJ) senior Southeast Asia representative, and Nathan MaungAmerican journalist and Kamayut Media editor. Maung was recently deported to the U.S. from Myanmar after being released from prison, where authorities abused him in retaliation for his reporting. The CPJ will publish a mid-year census on journalists imprisoned in Myanmar, with analysis and recommendations.
