Cities and Climate Challenges in Southeast Asia

Organizer: ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute

Description:

Concerns over climate risks and vulnerabilities gained ground in Southeast Asian cities as the region experiences more intense climate impacts. Policymakers and communities increasingly factor climate risk into urban planning policies. Yet Southeast Asian cities, with their diverse development trajectories, local capacities, and growth aspirations, face unique challenges in the climate crisis.

Against this backdrop, the Climate Change in Southeast Asia Programme at the ISEAS - Yusof Ishak Institute organised a workshop for policymakers, practitioners and scholars in October 2021 to discuss climate risk and urban development and how cities are advancing their climate mitigation and adaptive capacities; resulting in a published compendium “Cities and Climate Challenges in Southeast Asia” which sheds light on urban experiences in addressing climate challenges for policymaking.
