Gretchen researches on social memories in the Philippine context, specifically on authoritarian regimes and natural disasters. Some of her publications include collective memories of the Filipino youth on the Marcos regime, state violence and teaching indigenous cultures in international relations. Her articles have also appeared in The Diplomat and HBS-Southeast Asia. She is currently teaching at the Department Sociology and Anthropology of Xavier University in Mindanao, Philippines. She has taught courses in globalization studies, indigenous peoples and multiculturalism.
